Description
The Solengo IGT Toscana 2021 from Argiano is a distinctive wine crafted from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Sangiovese. The vineyards, situated between 280 and 310 meters above sea level, grow on soils rich in marl and ancient clays with a high concentration of limestone. These vineyards, aged between 15 and 22 years, are cultivated using the spur cordon system and adhere to organic farming principles, ensuring limited production per vine. The 2021 vintage was marked by a mild winter with sufficient rainfall to create good water reserves. March saw germination start about a week early, followed by an unexpected frost in April. Despite a torrid summer, effective agricultural techniques allowed the vines to maintain constant physiological activity and proper grape maturation. Cool nights ensured excellent grape quality, with healthy and well-developed clusters. Harvest began in the first week of September. Vinification involved separate fermentations for the different varieties, with a maceration of about 20 days and malolactic fermentation in cement. The wine aged for approximately 18 months in French barriques, with 60% new and 40% second-pass barrels. Solengo 2021 boasts a bouquet rich in aromas of berries and chocolate, enhanced by subtle spice and a well-integrated boisée note. On the palate, it features velvety, dense, and long-lived tannins, offering solid structure and balanced tension. With an alcohol content of 14.5%, this wine is an expression of great elegance and complexity.
